Themes
- There are many themes in The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. Here are three of them and how they are shown in the story:
- Friendship- Junior is constantly talking about how important friendship is. Throughout the whole story, he is trying to mend his friendship with Rowdy, but tries to keep the friends he has made.
- Respect- Respect is an important part of Native American culture. Junior brings up respect and disrespect numerously in the novel. For example, he explained that, to Indians, if someone disrespects you, a friend or family member in anyway, you must fight that person.
- Facing Fears- Junior had to face many fears throughout the novel, one is starting school at Reardan.
